Always the new kid. A new city. A new school. A new authority trying to shape me. I learned early on how to shift, shrink, or reshape myself just to fit in. They call it code-switching. I used to think it made life easier.
I was accepted into a boarding school, but was told I couldn’t enroll unless I cut my dreadlocks. I remember the sound of each snip, each lock hitting the floor. It wasn’t just a haircut. It was the moment I realized: This was the last time I’d sacrifice who I am to belong.
In French, banni means “outcast.” banni isn’t about rejection. It’s about refusal. Refusing to be anything other than your truest self. At the heart of this brand, we provide a community where identity isn’t sacrificed, it’s celebrated.
From learning tailoring and design at the Milton Hershey School to studying fashion and business at Drexel University. I poured every lesson, every shift, every moment into banni. It represents my journey.
It’s not about fitting in. It’s about showing up fully, authentically, and with style. This is a community of people who know who they are and express that through what they wear. You don’t need to perform. You don’t need to prove. Just be. That will always be enough.
